This is my season. I will happily sweat myself into a puddle any day over freezing my bum off.
Which should make the commitment to early morning hockey rinks from September to April that much more astonishing. The irony is not lost on me, I assure you.
But we’re talking summer now, people. This is my happy place. Warm, sunshine. Yes. And books.
Picture this, a beautiful, sunny, hot summer day. Sitting out on a patio chair, feet up, the water just steps away. A book in one hand, a drink in another. The happy sounds of my boys playing.
Because in this daydream, they don’t bicker or fight. Ever.
This is how a lot of the summer goes. Problems are easier to solve when we’re at the cottage. Things are simpler. And I read a lot.
On top of this beautiful vision, I have two weeks post surgery where I can not pick up anything over 10 pounds. You know what weighs less than 10 pounds?
Yep. A book.
With that, here’s what I know I’m reading this summer:
1. The Throne of Glass series: I picked up the first one late last year and I’m thinking this summer is the perfect time for a new YA series. There are 5 out right now, with a sixth coming next year. So that should hold me over for a little while.
2. The Queen of the Tearling series: Yep. Another series for me. Did I mention how much I read during the summer? While there are only three books in this series, it’s another YA read. For those of you catching on to the theme, I find that I want light and easy reads during the summer. Something I can pick up and put down as needed. These fit the bill. Thanks to my brother’s annual Chapter’s gift card for Christmas, I have all three of these just sitting and waiting to be read.
3. The Princes of Ireland: While this one is on the heavier side, and definitely out of the YA realm, I have been anticipating summer just so that I could sit down and read this. A friend kindly picked this one up for me and I have been looking at it longingly for the last few weeks. Because I know that it needs to be read at the cottage.
So that’s my reading list for the next three months. A lot of easy breezy reading and one to dig into and wallow in for a while. That’s balance, my friends.
With all that said, I will never turn down a book recommendation, so throw your most favorite recent read down in the comments. Because a good book has to be shared.
Happy reading, folks.
