Reasons I Need Caffeine: Seventh Edition

February 8, 2019 By: Staceycomment

We are neck deep in the Februarys people. The weather this week has driven the point home. We’ve had freezing cold temperatures. Then there was a thaw that turned the entire city into puddles. This was followed up with a flash freeze that turned the puddles into skating rinks, including the sidewalks.

It’s a minor miracle that I managed to navigate this nonsense without falling once. I am seriously doubting my ability to make it through the winter on two feet.

From a hockey perspective, we had a very quiet week. No weekday practices, just the regular weekend stuff. I’ll get to that in a minute. From a time perspective, nothing unreasonable.

The combination of weather and downtime meant that I went into hibernation mode. There were several very early bedtimes. One night, in particular, I told Boy #1 to say goodnight to me before he finished with his nighttime routine. He turned off the lights and put himself to bed that night. I crawled into bed and was asleep before this happened.

Basically, the tired got the better of me this week. I have to hope it’s temporary, because I have more on the schedule that has to get done this week. With that in mind, let’s get to our weekly recap, shall we?

weekly recap, http://thehockeymomchronicles.comReasons I Need Caffeine, Seventh Edition

1- While our hockey schedule was calmer, there was still a great deal of anxiety. For the first time in the history of the House of Hockey, one of my boys was between the pipes for a regular season game. Boy #2 put on the goalie gear and stopped pucks for the full 50 minutes. The only reason I’m alive to tell you this tale is because I wasn’t at that rink. I was at another rink with Boy #1 for his game. I survived courtesy updates from a fellow hockeymom, who I pestered mercilessly until the game was over. In his quest to give his mother every gray hair she has, Boy #2 has declared he wants to play goalie again.

2- As much as I love our current stage of parenting, there are some challenges. They currently present in the form of a pre-teen boy who has decided having brothers is the worst possible thing that could ever happen to him. We’re working through it, but this weekend has required a great deal of patience from everyone in the house.

3- It seems that all the utility companies we deal with had a meeting and decided that this was a good week to be problematic. We’ve dealt with a hot water tank rental company (when we don’t even have a hot water tank rental), a hydro company and our cell phone company. Thank goodness for HockeyDad and his infinite patience because I would have called people names and got us nowhere. What little patience I have is currently being used. (see Point #2)

4- My Wednesday off consisted of taking three boys to dentist appointments. The dentist stresses me out every time and apparently it doesn’t matter if it’s my appointment or one for my kids. I brought a book in a desperate attempt to distract myself, but it really didn’t work well. I blame the book, it was the final one in a trilogy and the direction the story took did not hold my attention. It happens. (If you want to know what I’m reading, hop over to my Instagram. I often post my recent reads there).

5- The post away tournament fall out is real. We got home late Sunday night and I attempted to get everything set up for the week ahead. I made a dent in the usual list but I still spent the week feeling like I was constantly playing catch up. I’m happy to report that the house is mostly set to rights and just yesterday I unpacked the last of our luggage from the previous week. My children have recently been assigned laundry folding responsibilities which means that we are no longer drowning in laundry. #GoTeam

So here’s to another week. May it include books, quiet time and copious amounts of caffeine.

And if it can’t do that, at least there will be hockey.

See you at the rink,
