I keep waiting for a Meal Plan Monday where I can talk about a “quiet” week. Or at least a “normal” week. I really shouldn’t because the calendar says that we wont have one of those coming until sometime in July. And even that weekend is earmarked for the cottage, weather depending.
Maybe it’s time to accept that this is the normal and working around it is the only way to survive.
Don’t get me wrong, the event this coming weekend is totally worth it. I get to see my favorite person and her kids. She was the one that got me through the early years of three in hockey. Thankfully, she has been there before. Her oldest swims competitively and her middle is in competitive soccer. Her youngest is now in baseball though he wasn’t at the time. So she gets the insanity of the schedule and helped me walk my way through it. She’s the only reason I survived so far with sanity mostly intact.
So as of Friday, I get to recharge my supermom batteries with her watching her oldest swim. To say I’m looking forward to it is an understatement.
It does complicate the meal planning a bit as meals Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be “road trip” style.
But there is the rest of the week. And the name of the game this week is to empty out the fridge as much as possible so as not to lose stuff to waste while we’re away. I have enough for school lunches, and my own lunches. There might need to be a small grocery store trip to get road trip supplies but for the most part, I think I have enough of that too.
Dinners this week are going to be quick and easy. Nothing new there either.
Monday- Pasta with meat sauce and cheese. Easy, everybody is happy. Done. At some point I really need to make the manicotti I was planning on two weeks ago. I dont think this is the week for it. Gah.
Tuesday- Grilled cheese and fruit. We have to take the puppy to the vet for another round of vaccinations, and then it’s Cub night, so something quick to eat between events is absolutely in order.
Wednesday- Fend for Yourself. Per usual.
Thursday- Snack plate. Cheese, crackers, a fruit. Maybe some popcorn while they watch a movie so I can pack for the road trip. Reminds me, I should get some laundry done this week so that I’m not tearing my hair out trying to pack on Thursday night.
Friday- Probably pizza ordered in to our hotel. By the time we get in and get settled it will be whatever can be brought to us in the least amount of time. Also, because we kind of live in the middle of nowhere Pizza Pizza is a novelty that we don’t often get to experience.
Saturday- Again, restaurant food of some sort. Not sure where. Not sure what. But we’re in a hotel for the weekend, so that’s kind of par for the course.
Sunday- One last restaurant dinner on the road home. At this point both Hockey Dad and I will be wanting “normal” food. We might just snack all the way home and call it good enough. We’ll see how the driving goes and what our timing is like.
And there you have it. Another week of meals planned out. Or as much as they can be planned out with this three ring circus I’m running.
Until next time,
