Y’all, I’m thinking I might need something stronger than caffeine this week. It’s been a weird one.
We got home from our road trip late Sunday night. As I mentioned on Monday, I came home to a clean house and things were mostly under control. And I don’t know how exactly it happened, or really when it happened, but the wheels came off the wagon this week. I’m going to chalk a good portion up to the fact that I have not slept well since Tuesday. Add to that the beginning of a transition period for me at work and I’m feeling fairly unmotivated.
Thankfully, I have been wearing my Fitbit and participating in a work week challenge or I wouldn’t have run at all this week. As it stands, that’s all I could bring myself to do this week. The rest of my downtime has been largely unproductive. Unless you count my virtual farm that I have been relentlessly playing on my phone.
I’m told that doesn’t count.
So let’s hash this out in hopes of a better week next week, shall we?
Reasons I Need Caffeine, 9th Edition.
1- The dog (who you will have seen if you frequent my Instagram) ate something that most definitely did not agree with his stomach. He is also a bit of a wimp and required company every two hours last night to go out and relieve himself. Here’s hoping for a better night tonight or even coffee wont be able to save me.
2- With spring comes a very busy season for my firefighter. In the last two weeks, there has been on average one call a day. And there was significant flooding in neighboring areas so our station went out to lend a hand with sandbags and such. Once more, someone else needs our firefighters more than we do, so I hold down the fort at home. And the fort sometimes resembles a three ring circus. Just call me ringmaster and hand over the coffee.
3- We are in the thick of May. Which means the home stretch to summer vacation for my players. It also means that there were a lot of school activities this week. And next week marks the beginning of standardized testing for Boy #2. Two hours a day for two weeks. And he is going to be exhausted. I know this. HockeyDad knows this. But he’s at an age where he might not recognize it, so we’re just going to have to navigate the situation. Buckle up, buttercups. Just because we’re close to the end of the school year doesn’t mean we can coast just yet.
If anyone has any tips or tricks for surviving the rest of the school year, I’m all ears. I am not one of those parents that finishes the school year strong. I very much limp across the finish line hoping that the lackluster lunches don’t scar my precious children too much.
And that puts a cap on this week’s Reasons I Need Caffeine. Tune in next week where I discuss the plethora of birthday parties and scheduled events we have on the calendar. It is riveting stuff.
See you at the rink,
